The Fellowship is a transformative, hands-on program specifically designed for graduate students pursuing careers in health and human service professions. This immersive experience challenges Fellows to take initiative by identifying a pressing community health need, designing a meaningful intervention, and developing an action plan with measurable outcomes.
Throughout the Fellowship, participants engage in a dynamic process of personal and professional growth. Fellows will:
Apply their academic training in real-world contexts, bridging the gap between theory and practice to address complex health challenges.
Develop cultural sensitivity and compassion, becoming more effective and empathetic caregivers in diverse community settings.
Gain a deeper understanding of the social and environmental determinants of health, and how these factors shape outcomes for individuals and populations.
Strengthen their commitment to public service, by contributing to meaningful, sustainable improvements in community health and social equity.
Work collaboratively across disciplines, cultivating the teamwork and communication skills necessary to achieve shared goals with peers, professionals, and community stakeholders.
Exercise leadership in community engagement, learning how to influence and partner with local organizations, community leaders, and academic institutions to promote holistic, service-oriented approaches to health care.
Upon successful completion of the Fellowship year, graduates become part of the Fellows for Life alumni network—a diverse, interdisciplinary community of emerging professionals who are equipped and committed to serving underserved populations and advancing health equity.
